01 · Running Is Mobile

The most mobile activity meets the most fixed support.

A long run is a continuous, hours-long relocation. Hydration, lighting, first aid and storage are needed at every point along the route — not at the start, not at the finish.

Today those needs are served by a chain of place-bound resources: water fountains, benches, AED cabinets, and aid stations. Between them lie the parts of the route where support simply does not exist.

The runner compensates by carrying the load — on their body, or in their hands. Every gram of that load is energy that should be going into the session.

CONTEXTSurvival with sudden cardiac arrest drops by roughly 7–10% for every minute without CPR and defibrillation (American Heart Association CPR & ECC guidelines, 2020). Timing matters — and fixed devices depend on being exactly where the emergency is not.

Mobile runners lack a support system that can continuously move, respond and act alongside them. The conclusion is not "there is no vehicle available". It is that every layer of training support — carry, light, record, coordinate, respond — is delivered from a place or from the runner's own body. Neither can stay with a moving runner for the whole journey.
